A
Cultural Heritage Project
IF Midwest is a cultural heritage project. Its activities
focus on understanding the French presence in the Midwest.
Activities consist of information gathering in local
communities of French language origin, developing public
programs, preparing publications, and offering workshops
and courses. IF Midwest's first geographical region
of focus is North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota.
This region can be viewed by clicking on the Map, French
Heritage in the Midwest of the United States: The Red
River Valley of the North. Within the
map, viewers may click on communities to view additional
information as it is posted. To gather information, IF
Midwest depends largely on Heritage Informants
who help in the more than 50 communities found in the
Map, French Heritage in
the Midwest of the United States: The Red River Valley
of the North. IF Midwest manages the web site, while
the Chester Fritz Library on the campus of the University
of North Dakota processes new materials.
We invite persons
interested in IF Midwest's mission to contact the IF Midwest
director, Virgil Benoit, Ph.D., Associate Professor of French,
University of North Dakota at: virgil.benoit@und.nodak.edu
or IF Midwest Director Box 8198 UND Grand Forks, ND 58202
